Jorge Amado was a Brazilian author and one of the most widely read writers in Latin America. He wrote over thirty novels, as well as numerous short stories, plays, and essays. His works often focused on the lives of the poor and marginalized in Brazil, and he was known for his vivid descriptions of the country's culture and landscape. Amado was awarded the Camões Prize, the highest literary honor in the Portuguese language, in 1989.
