John Muir was an influential environmentalist and conservationist who is featured on the California State Quarter. He was born in Scotland and immigrated to the United States in 1849. Muir is best known for his work in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where he founded the Sierra Club and advocated for the preservation of wilderness areas. He is also credited with helping to establish Yosemite National Park. Muir's legacy lives on in the John Muir Trail, which stretches over 200 miles through the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
