John of Scotch fame is John Dewar, a Scottish entrepreneur who founded the whisky brand of the same name. He was born in 1805 and began his career as a grocer in Perth, Scotland. He later opened a wine and spirits shop in Edinburgh, and in 1846 he established the John Dewar & Sons Ltd. distillery. The company became one of the most successful whisky brands in the world, and it continues to be a popular choice today.
