Thad Jones was an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader. He is best known for his work with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, which he co-led with drummer Mel Lewis from 1965 to 1978. He also had a successful solo career, releasing several albums as a leader. Jones was known for his hard-driving style of playing and his innovative compositions. He was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 1998.
