Stan Getz was an American jazz saxophonist who was known for his smooth and lyrical playing style. He was a major influence on the development of cool jazz in the 1950s and is considered one of the greatest jazz saxophonists of all time. Getz was nicknamed 'The Sound' because of his warm, lyrical tone, and he is best known for popularizing bossa nova music in the United States with the hit song 'The Girl from Ipanema'. Getz's collaboration with guitarist João Gilberto on the album Getz/Gilberto in 1964 helped to popularize bossa nova internationally.
