Stan Getz was a jazz legend who was known for his smooth, lyrical saxophone playing. He was born in Philadelphia in 1927 and began playing professionally at the age of 15. He was a major influence on the cool jazz movement of the 1950s and 1960s, and he collaborated with many of the greats of the jazz world, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis. Getz won multiple Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 1985.
