A jazz ensemble is a group of musicians who play jazz music together. A COMBO is a small jazz ensemble, usually consisting of five or fewer musicians. Combos are often used in jazz clubs and other small venues, as they provide a more intimate atmosphere than larger ensembles. Jazz combos typically include a rhythm section (piano, bass, and drums) and one or two solo instruments (saxophone, trumpet, guitar, etc.). The musicians in a COMBO work together to create a unique sound that is both improvisational and structured.
