A Japanese wrestling match is a type of martial art known as SUMO. SUMO is a competitive full-contact sport where two wrestlers, or rikishi, attempt to force each other out of a circular ring or into touching the ground with any part of their body other than the soles of their feet. It is considered a gendai budō, which translates to a modern martial art. SUMO originated in Japan and is the country's national sport.
