Italian Volcano is a term used to refer to three of the most active volcanoes in Italy: Etna, Stromboli, and Vesuvius. Etna is a stratovolcano located on the east coast of Sicily and is the highest active volcano in Europe at 3, 329 meters. Stromboli is a small island off the north coast of Sicily and is known for its frequent eruptions. Vesuvius is a stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples and is famous for its eruption in 79 AD that destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
