The Italian novelist Umberto Eco is best known for his 1980 novel 'The Name of the Rose'. He was a professor of semiotics, a philosopher, and a literary critic. He wrote several other novels, including 'Foucault's Pendulum' and 'The Island of the Day Before'. He also wrote numerous non-fiction works, such as 'On Beauty' and 'History of Beauty'. Eco was a prolific writer and his works have been translated into many languages.
