Moshe Dayan was an Israeli statesman who served as the country's Defense Minister during the Six-Day War in 1967. He was a major figure in the political and military history of Israel, and is remembered for his iconic black eyepatch. Dayan was born in Kibbutz Degania Alef in 1915 and joined the Haganah paramilitary organization in 1931. He was appointed Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces in 1953 and later served as Defense Minister from 1967 to 1974. Dayan was also a member of the Knesset from 1959 to 1981.
