Israel's Shimon Peres was a prominent Israeli politician and statesman who served as the ninth President of Israel from 2007 to 2014. He was also the Prime Minister of Israel twice, from 1984 to 1986 and again from 1995 to 1996. Peres was a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, having been awarded the prize in 1994 for his role in negotiating the Oslo Accords. He was also a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012. Peres was an influential figure in Israeli politics for over six decades and was widely respected both domestically and internationally.
