The NENE, also known as the Hawaiian Goose, is a species of goose endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. It is the state bird of Hawaii and is also known as the Island Goose. The NENE is the only goose native to Hawaii and is the world's rarest goose species. It is believed to have evolved from the Canada Goose and is the only surviving member of the genus Branta. The NENE is a protected species and its population has been increasing since the 1950s.
