The term Islamic Sovereign refers to a ruler of an Islamic state. This ruler is usually referred to as a Sultan or a CALIPH. A Sultan is a monarch who holds the highest rank in a Muslim state and is responsible for the administration of justice and the protection of the people. A CALIPH is a spiritual leader of the Islamic faith, who is believed to be the successor of the Prophet Muhammad and is responsible for leading the Islamic community.
