The Irish Legislature is composed of the Dáil, which is the lower house of the Oireachtas, the bicameral national parliament of Ireland. The Dáil consists of 158 members, known as Teachtaí Dála (TDs), who are directly elected by the people of Ireland. TDs are elected from multi-seat constituencies under the system of proportional representation. The Dáil is responsible for making laws and deciding on taxation and government spending.
