Deirdre is an Irish heroine from the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology. She was the daughter of the king of Ulster and was betrothed to Naoise, a warrior of the Red Branch. Deirdre's beauty was renowned throughout Ireland and she was sought after by many suitors. When she chose Naoise, her father was so angry that he had them both exiled. They eventually returned to Ulster, but were betrayed and killed. Deirdre's story has been told in many forms, including literature, music, and art.
