Elisha Otis was an American inventor who is best known for inventing the first safety elevator in 1852. He was born in Halifax, Vermont in 1811 and worked as a mechanic before he developed his invention. His invention revolutionized the way people moved between floors in buildings, making it much safer and more efficient. Otis' invention was the first of its kind and has been used in many buildings since then.
