The International News Service (INS) was an American news agency that operated from 1909 to 1958. It was founded by newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst and was the first news agency in the United States. INS provided news coverage to newspapers, magazines, and radio stations around the world. In 1941, INS merged with Reuters, a British news agency, to form the United Press International (UPI). UPI continued to provide news coverage until it ceased operations in 1999.
