Indian American Chief is a term used to describe a leader of a Native American tribe. Pontiac, SACHEM, and Geronimo are all examples of Indian American Chiefs. Pontiac was an Ottawa chief who led a Native American resistance against the British in the Great Lakes region during the 18th century. SACHEM was a title given to leaders of the Algonquian tribes in the Northeastern United States. Geronimo was a prominent leader of the Chiricahua Apache who fought against Mexican and American expansion into Apache tribal lands during the 19th century.
