The term IN VITRO FERTILIZATION refers to a medical procedure IN which an egg is fertilized outside of the body. This process is often used to help couples who are having difficulty conceiving naturally. IN vitro fertilization involves retrieving eggs from the female partner and combining them with sperm from the male partner IN a laboratory setting. The resulting embryo is then transferred to the uterus of the female partner, where it can develop into a baby.
