Horse gaits are the various ways in which a horse can move. The two most common gaits are trotting and loping. Trotting is a two-beat gait in which the horse moves its legs in diagonal pairs, with the front right and back left legs moving together, followed by the front left and back right legs. Loping is a three-beat gait in which the horse moves its legs in a slow, relaxed manner, with the front right and back left legs moving together, followed by the front left and back right legs, and then the hind legs moving together. Both gaits are used for riding and racing horses.
