Amos Hoople of the comics is a character created by cartoonist Al Capp in 1934. He is a balding, bespectacled, and often befuddled man who is constantly trying to get rich quick. He is a recurring character in the comic strip Li'l Abner, and is known for his catchphrase 'What a revoltin' development this is!' He is also known for his attempts at inventing things, such as the 'Kickapoo Joy Juice' and the 'Shmoos'.
