Thor Heyerdahl was a Norwegian author and explorer best known for his 1947 Kon-Tiki expedition, in which he sailed 8, 000 km across the Pacific Ocean on a balsa wood raft. Heyerdahl wrote several books about his expeditions, including Kon-Tiki, which was made into an Academy Award-winning documentary in 1951. Heyerdahl also wrote several other books, including Aku-Aku, The Ra Expeditions, and Fatu-Hiva. Heyerdahl's works have been translated into more than 60 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide.
