The sobriquet 'Tippecanoe' was given to William Henry Harrison, the 9th President of the United States. The nickname was derived from his military victory at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811 during the Tecumseh's War. The battle was fought against a confederacy of Native American tribes led by Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa. Harrison's victory at the battle helped him gain national fame and eventually the presidency.
