A harem slave, also known as an odalisque (9 letters), was a female servant in the Ottoman Empire who served in the household of a sultan. They were usually chosen from Christian or Jewish backgrounds and were expected to provide entertainment and sexual services to the sultan. They were also responsible for other duties such as attending to the sultan's children and helping with the running of the household.
