Alex Haley was an American author and historian best known for his novel 'ROOTS: The Saga of an American Family' which was adapted into a television miniseries in 1977. He also wrote the autobiography of Malcolm X, which was published in 1965. Haley was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1977 for 'ROOTS'. He was also the first African-American to win a Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
