The term 'Gypsy Tony Winner' refers to the American actress and singer, Patti LuPone. She won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Rose in the Broadway revival of Gypsy in 2008. LuPone is a two-time Tony Award winner, having also won the award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Eva Peron in the original Broadway production of Evita in 1980. She has also been nominated for numerous other awards, including two Grammy Awards and two Olivier Awards.
