Mary Lou Retton is an American gymnast who won the all-around gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She was the first American woman to win the all-around gold medal and the first female gymnast from outside Eastern Europe to win the all-around title. She also won two silver medals and two bronze medals at the 1984 Olympics. After her Olympic success, she became a popular celebrity and appeared in numerous television shows, commercials, and movies. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2000.
