Grant Wood, for one, was an American painter from Iowa. He is best known for his painting 'American Gothic', which depicts a farmer and his daughter standing in front of a house. He was born in Anamosa, Iowa in 1891 and died in 1942. He was a major influence on the Regionalist art movement of the 1930s. He was also a member of the Taos Society of Artists. His works are held in many public collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
