The Graf Spee was a German pocket battleship that served during World War II. It was named after Admiral Maximilian von Spee, commander of the East Asia Squadron that fought in the Battle of the Falkland Islands during World War I. The Graf Spee was one of the most powerful warships of its time and was equipped with six 11-inch guns, eight 5.9-inch guns, and eight torpedo tubes. It was used by the German Navy to disrupt Allied shipping in the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans. In December 1939, the Graf Spee was scuttled off the coast of Uruguay after a battle with British forces.
