Gradual Assimilation is a process of cultural change in which a minority group gradually adopts the customs and beliefs of the majority group. It is often compared to the biological process of osmosis, in which molecules of a solvent pass through a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one. In the same way, gradual assimilation involves the absorption of the dominant culture by a minority group.
