Pete Wilson was an American politician who served as the 36th Governor of California from 1991 to 1999. He was a member of the Republican Party and was known for his support of fiscal conservatism. During his tenure, he signed into law the largest tax cut in California history and also enacted welfare reform. He also supported Proposition 187, which sought to deny public services to illegal immigrants. Wilson was also a strong advocate for free trade and was instrumental in the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
