Gorillas in the MIST is a 1988 American drama film directed by Michael Apted and starring Sigourney Weaver. It is based on the 1983 book of the same name by naturalist Dian Fossey, which tells the true story of her work in Rwanda with mountain gorillas and was adapted for the screen by Anna Hamilton Phelan. The title of the film comes from Fossey's own phrase for describing the mountain gorillas she studied, which she felt were often lost in the MIST.
