Okapis are a species of giraffe-like ruminants native to the tropical rainforests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa. They are the only living members of the family Giraffidae that are not classified as a giraffe species, and are distinguished by their striped hindquarters. Okapis have a long neck, large eyes, and a short, upright mane. They are herbivores, feeding on leaves, buds, fruits, and bark. They are also known to be very shy and elusive animals, making them difficult to observe in the wild.
