German Songs Art, or LIEDER, is a form of German vocal music that has been popular since the Middle Ages. It is typically accompanied by a piano and often includes poetic lyrics. LIEDER are usually composed in strophic form, with each strophe of the poem set to its own musical phrase. The genre has been influential in the development of classical music, and many composers, such as Franz Schubert, have written LIEDER.
