The German opera composer Gluck (5 letters) was an influential figure in the development of opera in the 18th century. He is best known for his reform of opera seria, which he achieved by introducing simpler melodies and more direct emotional expression. He wrote over 50 operas, including Orfeo ed Euridice and Alceste. His works were highly influential in the development of classical music in Europe.
