German Art Songs, or LIEDER, are a form of classical music originating in Germany in the early 19th century. They are typically composed for solo voice and piano accompaniment, and often feature poetic lyrics. LIEDER are usually written in a narrative style, telling stories of love, loss, and other emotions. They are considered to be one of the most important genres of German music, and have been performed by some of the greatest composers in history, such as Schubert, Brahms, and Mahler.
