George Eliot, E.G. was the pen name of Mary Ann Evans, an English novelist, poet, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. She is best known for her novels, which include Middlemarch, Silas Marner, and Adam Bede. Her works are known for their realism and psychological insight. She also wrote several essays and poems, and translated works from French and German.
