The Enola Gay was a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber plane that was used by the United States during World War II. It was named after the mother of the pilot, Colonel Paul Tibbets, and was most famously known for dropping the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945. The Enola Gay was the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb in warfare and is considered one of the most significant planes in history.
