Galileo Galilei was an Italian ASTRONOMER, physicist, engineer, philosopher, and mathematician who lived from 1564 to 1642. He is best known for his contributions to the scientific revolution, including his heretical views that the Earth revolved around the Sun, which were contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church at the time. He was born in Pisa, Italy, and is often referred to as the 'Father of Modern Science'.
