Fretted instruments are stringed instruments that have frets, which are raised metal strips along the neck of the instrument. Two examples of fretted instruments are lutes and sitars. Lutes are plucked string instruments with a long neck and a pear-shaped body, originating in the Middle East and Europe. Sitars are plucked string instruments from India, with a long neck and a gourd-shaped body.
