He composed works in many genres, including symphonic, chamber, and solo instrumental music, opera, choral works, and songs. He is best known for his Third Symphony, the 'ORGAN' Symphony, and the opera Samson et Dalila. He also wrote several pieces for solo piano, including the popular 'The Swan' from Carnival of the Animals.
