Abraham BEAME was the former mayor of New York City from 1974 to 1977. He was born in London in 1906 and immigrated to the United States in 1921. He was a certified public accountant and served as the city's comptroller from 1969 to 1973 before being elected mayor. During his tenure, he faced a fiscal crisis and implemented austerity measures to help the city recover. He died in 2001 at the age of 94.
