Arthur Ashe was a former Davis Cup captain. He was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam titles. He was the first African American to win the men's singles title at the US Open and Wimbledon. He was also the first African American to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Ashe was appointed as the captain of the United States Davis Cup team in 1981 and served until 1984.
