A fore-and-aft rigged vessel is a type of sailing ship that has its sails set along the line of the keel, rather than perpendicular to it. The two most common types of fore-and-aft rigged vessels are the KETCH and the SLOOP. A KETCH is a two-masted sailing vessel with the mizzenmast stepped forward of the rudder post, while a SLOOP is a single-masted vessel with one mast and a jib-headed mainsail.
