A floating ice field is composed of two main components: floes and icebergs. A FLOE is a large sheet of floating ice, usually formed by the breaking off of an ICEBERG. An ICEBERG is a large mass of ice that has broken off from a glacier or ice shelf and is floating in the ocean.
