Fish's breathing apparatus is composed of gills, which are organs that allow fish to extract oxygen from the water. Gills are thin, feathery structures located on either side of a fish's head and are made up of many small filaments. These filaments are covered in blood vessels that absorb oxygen from the water and transport it to the fish's body. The gills also help to remove carbon dioxide from the fish's body.
