Fish-eating hawks are a type of bird of prey known as ospreys. Ospreys are large raptors that have a wingspan of up to 6 feet and are found on every continent except Antarctica. They feed mainly on fish, which they catch by diving into the water from heights of up to 100 feet. Ospreys have a unique feature in that their feet are specially adapted for gripping slippery fish. They also have reversible outer toes which allow them to grasp their prey with two toes in front and two behind. Ospreys are an important part of the food chain and help to keep fish populations in check.
