Alexander Hamilton was the first Treasury Secretary of the United States. He was appointed by President George Washington in 1789 and served until 1795. Hamilton was a Founding Father of the United States and was instrumental in the establishment of the nation's financial system. He is best known for his successful efforts to create a national bank, a system of tariffs, and the establishment of the US Mint.
