The first queen of Carthage was DIDO, a four-letter name. DIDO was the founder and first queen of the ancient Phoenician city of Carthage, located in modern-day Tunisia. She is best known from the account of her life in Virgil's Aeneid. According to legend, DIDO fled from Tyre, the Phoenician city of her birth, to North Africa where she founded Carthage. She was later betrayed by the Trojan prince Aeneas, who had promised to marry her.
